The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games
The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games are happening this summer, but before the games begin, the flame is making the rounds.
The flame was lit in Teotihuacan Mexico before coming to Canada to begin its 5000+ kilometre nationwide journey. The Canadian part of the trek started last Saturday on May 30. Its final stop will be in Toronto for the Opening Ceremony of the games July 10.
St. Thomas was selected as one of more than 130 communities on the route, and will accompany its arrival with a celebration. On June 17, set in the heart of downtown in the historic L&PS Corridor, the torch is scheduled to arrive at 5:07 p.m. Following its arrival will be time for photo ops and speeches by local dignitaries.
Local school groups are set to provide entertainment and showcase their incredible talent. Enjoy the Monsignor Morrison singers, the Trudeau band, and the Forest Park dancers.
Capping off the celebration will be two sponsored “fun run” train rides (no cost to ride).
The St. Thomas & District Chamber is proud to have builder/developer/community supporter Doug Tarry as a runner selected to carry the flame here. Doug was selected by the Chamber in conjunction with a request from the organizers for us to name a local champion – a previous Free Enterprise Award winner with strong ties & interests in community success.
