Doug Tarry Judging the Niagara Home Builders Awards
Hey all,
This coming September 12th and 13th I will be in the Niagara Region as one of the judges for the Niagara Home Builders Awards. This is the second time that I have had the privilege of being an NHBA judge.
Over the years I have had the opportunities to judge many local and provincial association awards most recently was the CHBA BC awards. While that event was a 2+day marathon session, we didn’t leave the CHBA BC offices, but made our assessments based on written submissions, brochures and photographs. Of the many association awards I have judged this is the typical method and I always come away feeling I have learned something.
But judging the Niagara Home Builders Awards is a completely different experience. This is the two day “Decathlon” of awards judging and I am very excited to be selected as one of the judges. Why? Because we go to every entry that we are judging! That’s fifty (50) plus homes in two days in a van with two other judges, a driver, a navigator and Lynda Busch, the NHBA Executive Officer to keep us all in line.
We start both days at 7:30 in the morning and visit homes the entire day until 5:00pm. We compile our notes for each home that we visit while we are driving to the next home. You have to be really meticulous to keep track of seeing that many homes. It is completely grueling, but great fun and a wonderful opportunity to see what some really great builders are doing in the Niagara area.
Several of these homes in the past have gone on to be Provincial and National award winners and finalists.
I can’t wait to get started.
Doug
