Decor Trends

Making décor and furniture selections for your home can be a difficult decision. When decorating a new home, we are often faced with the desire to get all new furniture that is on trend with a particular look. And while you may be happy with your purchases in the short term you might grow tired of them as the trends change. A good rule of thumb is to select more traditional pieces for your major furniture purchases and incorporate trendy textiles and smaller decorative items that you can easily change later. A classic is a classic for a reason because it can stand the test of time. Another idea when decorating your home is to incorporate vintage pieces into your space. Giving an old piece new life in your space will add a one-of-a-kind style to your house, personalized to your own unique style. It is a piece that tells a story and is a greener option over buying new and let’s face it, a vintage piece will probably also outlast anything brand new from a big box store since it has already withstood 50-100 years plus, depending on the piece. In the end whatever you purchase, our suggestion is to take your time, don’t just rush in into hasty purchases you might regret later. Cultivate your pieces and make your house a home, honed to the needs and desires of yourself and your family, not the latest trends.

Impartial review from an entry level buyer who went with the competition, but whose closest friend owns a Doug Tarry semidetached from 2020 in Miller's Pond. 5 star review is out of respect for the business rather than details.PROS1. Quiet and seemingly high quality Dettson or Lennox HVAC system.2. Thoughtful layouts that do a decent job with noise isolation from shared walls, be it staggered master bedrooms when possible in their new townhouses or extra insulation in the basement.3. 200 AMP panel or close to it standard.4. Great value overall.CONS1. For a supposedly air sealed house there have been a lot of gaps that were found and sealed near the foundation where ants were getting in.2. Flooring installed haphazardly near kitchen island over a power cable that caused a raised ridge bump in the flooring. Some other odd looking gaps in drywall from day 1.3. All of the interior light bulbs died at the same time 3 years in. Must have been a bad batch.4. Inadequate ventilation in the bathroom through the circular exhaust vent and fan.5. Proprietary thermostat that is required for variable speed HVAC, Doug Tarry makes money on repairs on this through his other business Abode.6. Side windows could be better staggered with neighbour's windows. It's a shame the blinds need to be closed for privacy in a fully planned part of the neighbourhood.7. I don't like some of the roof designs with front false facades from a repair standpoint.Bottom line is whatever builder you go with, nothing will be perfect and if you see issues that are easily fixed, point them out while you can. But Doug Tarry provides good value in an energy efficient package.

Building our home was a wonderful experience start to finish and we couldn't be happier! Cathy was so kind, patient, and helpful as we navigated the process. She took time to show us different lot options and guided us through making changes to ensure everything was just right.Melinda was equally amazing! She made picking out all the finishes for our home fun and was so patient with us as we considered every detail.During construction, we had the opportunity to see our home at different stages--framing, drywall, cabinetry, and it was so exciting to see everything come together. Before closing, we met with the customer care team, who inspected the house top to bottom with us to make sure everything was perfect. Their attention to detail and care for our home gave us so much confidence in the quality of our new home.If you're considering building a home, I can't recommend this team enough. They made the entire journey smooth, enjoyable, and unforgettable. Thank you so much for helping us create our dream home!
